The "I do" Cocktail
2 oz Honey-Melon Nectar (see below)
1 Dash Angostura Bitters
Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass.
Shake with large ice and strain.

I remember the day so clearly. When we arrived the afternoon before, it had been drizzling, but that morning, the clouds seemingly had business elsewhere. I started the day with three espressos. Later, it was lunch with your dad and the guys. The perch had been caught fresh in the lake, and all of us still strain to remember the name of the beer. That afternoon, the guys — Lars, Tony, the two Mikes — and I stepped aboard the boat for our trip across the lake. In their dark suits and sunglasses, they looked like a flock of secret service agents, and realizing this, they played their parts with zeal.
You were late. Thirty minutes, if memory serves. But you couldn’t be blamed. They had given you what was essentially a closet in which to change. It was worth the wait. You looked ravishing. Your dad struggled in vain to shoo away the occasional gawker, unaware that where we were, the service was considered public.
When we arrived back at the hotel, we had to solve the problem of the flowers. As we were leaving the next morning, we couldn’t keep them. So, we took to the streets — me in my morning coat, you in your gown — and spread them as far across the town as we could. One for each person we met until they were gone.
I remember that day so clearly, though it was now so many years ago. Every time I look into your eyes or catch your smile. Every time you sing our son to sleep with the same song they played as you slowly made your way toward the altar — toward me. It was the day you said “I do”.
I did too. And I still do. Always.

Honey-Melon Nectar: From a ripe Tuscan Melon (if you live in Southern California, get Dulcinea Farms; they’re worth it), cut a wedge about two inches wide across the rind. Seed, cube and put in to a mixing glass. The glass should be between a third and a half full of loosely packed melon. Pour in 0.75 oz of Orange Blossom Honey and 0.5 oz of Lemon Juice. Muddle until the mixture is as liquefied as it’s going to get. Strain mixture into another glass, using the muddler to force all out all possible liquid. Discard solids.
