As we’re in the midst of our 12 Drinks of Christmas, we decided not to do an extensive “What to Buy” guide this year, especially as some of our friends have already done very good jobs of assembling such lists. Instead, we’re going to make a couple of recommendations and turn the rest over to a few of the kind and learned people who comprise our blogroll.
1 oz Leopold’s Gin
0.5 oz Dry Vermouth
0.5 oz Sweet Vermouth
0.5 oz Orange Liqueur (see below)
1 oz Fresh Orange Juice
Dash of Orange Bitters
Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass.
Shake with large ice and strain.
Garnish with an orange peel.
From Vintage Spirits and Forgotten Cocktails
0.5 Tbsp Sugar
2 or 3 Dashes Lemon Juice
1 oz Soda Water
1 oz Remy Martin Cognac
2 oz Orange Liqueur (a Curaçao recommended, obviously)
1 oz Pusser’s Rum
In a goblet, combine Sugar, Lemon Juice, and Soda. Stir to Dissolve.
Fill goblet with crushed or shaved ice.
Add remaining ingredients. Stir well.
Garnish like Carmen Miranda’s head.
Serve with a straw.
(Note: Adjust sugar and lemon to taste)

2 oz Remy Martin Cognac
1 oz Orange Liqueur (Cointreau recommended)
0.75 oz Lemon Juice
Rim a cocktail glass with a slice of cut lemon, covering the outside in the juice.
Dip the outside of the glass in superfine sugar to coat.
Shake all ingredient and strain into glass.
Garnish with lemon wheel.

1.5 oz Leopold’s Gin
0.75 oz Lemon Juice
0.75 oz Simple Syrup
2 dashes Angostura Bitters
Shake with ice and strain.
Garnish with lemon wheel or twist.
