Income Tax Cocktail

1.5 oz Dry Gin
0.75 oz Dry Vermouth
0.75 oz Sweet Vermouth
0.50 oz Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice
2 Dashes Angostura Bitters

Add all ingredients to a mixing glass.
Stir with ice and strain into a coupe.
Garnish with an orange twist.

4 oz Leopold’s Gin
2 oz Dry Vermouth
2 dashes of Kübler Absinthe

Stir with ice and strain into two coupes.

Makes two drinks

Note: The original version of this post accidentally included Sweet Vermouth instead of Dry Vermouth.  An absolute gaff on our part — but, at least, that drink is tasty too.

In Good Hands – Part One

Last week, Lesley and I packed up the toddler and winged our way north, cashing in the trip we had won as grand finalists in the POM Wonderful Dinner Party contest back in November.   We had our selection of spots all around the country – anywhere POM had a partner in its chef series. Napa was not only the shortest distance for the lad’s first plane flight (being parents, we are prone to choose the path of least resistance), but it was also ‘home’ in some ways as both Lesley and I grew up in Northern California.  Within hours of leaving our front door, we had loaded up our rental RAV4 and were off on a drinking tour which, despite our being in viticulture central, involved very little wine.  As you may have guessed, we were there for the booze. From The Joy of Mixology by Gary Regan

2 oz Redbreast Whiskey
1 oz Sweet Vermouth
1 Dash Angostura Bitters
1 Dash Kübler Absinthe

Add all ingredients to a mixing glass.
Stir with large ice and strain into a coupe.
Garnish with a lemon twist.

Duppy Cocktail

3 oz Redbreast Whiskey
1 oz Orange Liqueur
2 Dashes Orange Bitters
2-6 Whole Cloves

In a mixing glass, add cloves to Whiskey and let sit for about an hour
When ready, add other ingredients
Shake with large ice and strain into a coupe
